Stone Harbor and Avalon Beaches are open and guarded from 10 AM to 5 PM daily between the last week of May and the first week of September. Beach tags must be worn by all beach visitors, 12 years and older. Effective last week of May, beach tags are as follows: preseason
$6 daily,$12 weekly,$23 season (before 5/31), $28 season (after 5/31)
Tags may be purchased from the Beach Tag Office (95th St. & Beach) or from a Beach Tag Inspector anytime during the season.
Beach tags can be used for Stone Harbor or Avalon beaches.
We ask that you refrain from any action likely to impair the welfare of others. Alcoholic beverages, glass containers, picnics, pets and hardball are strictly prohibited. These regulations are for your protection and safety. Please cooperate with the instructions of your lifeguards and beach inspectors.
Bathing and swimming are permitted only at protected beaches where lifeguards are on duty 10 AM to 5 PM, last weekend of May through the first weekend in September. Use of rafts, surf boards, and catamarans are permitted only at designated beaches.
Protected Beaches: (Stone Harbor)- 81st, 83rd, 86th, 87th, 90th, 93rd, 95th, 96th, 100th, 102nd, 103rd, 105th, 108th, 110th, 116th, 117th, 120th and 122nd.
Rafting Beaches,Surfing Beaches & kayaks
Swimming, rafts, and surfboards are permitted at designated beaches only. Swimming and rafting beaches are all designated beaches except 81st, 86th, 105th, 110th, 112th, and 122nd Streets. The use of surfboards (with leases attached) are permitted at the beaches at 81st and 110th Streets only. Kayaks are permitted at 122nd Street through 126th Street only, and life jackets must be worn at all times while in the water.
Catamaran Beach: South of 122nd - 126th Streets
(license fee: $150 - season; $100 - 1/2 season)
A boat launching ramp is located at 81st St. and the Bay and is available seven (7) days a week. See attendant for launching fees and regulations.
DOGS ON THE BEACH. Dogs are permitted on the beach from 7:00p.m. to sunset. All dogs must be leashed. Dogs and other pets are not permitted at the Stone Harbor Point at any time.
AVALON has one of the only remaining high dune systems on the east coast. To partially offset the cost of maintaining and protecting its beaches for your enjoyment, Avalon requirs that beach tags be worn by all using the beach, 12 years and older. Pre-season tags may be purchased weekends betinning April 11 at the Beach Tag booth at Community Hall.
